Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Oct. 3

Today's contestants are:

- Kate, a public defender from Washington state, was a cheesemonger before her legal career;
- Raghuvansh, a quality engineer from Massachusetts,  loves cricket; and
- Kevin, a university administrator from New York, wants tools that won't hurt him. Kevin is a two-day champ with winnings of $49,401.

In the lowest-scoring game in recent memory (much to Alex's undisguised disapproval), champ Kevin came through on some top-row clues late to lead into FJ with $5,600 vs. $5,000 for Raghuvansh and $4,600 for Kate.

DD1, $400 - SHIFT THE STRESS - To express disapproval & something you can see & touch (Kate won $600 from her total of $1,400.)

DD2, $800 - THE WORLD OF 1819 - Shelley's poem "England in 1819" calls him "An old, mad blind, despised and dying king" (Raghuvansh lost $2,000 from his score of $4,600.)

DD3, $2,000 - AUTHORS: BORN & DIED - The "Winds of War" carried this author from his birth in the Bronx to his death in Palm Springs, California in 2019 at age 103 (Kevin lost $4,400 on a true DD.)

FJ - PHRASE ORIGINS - The OED's first citation for this phrase referring to a region of the U.S. is from a Durant, Oklahoma newspaper in 1936

In the FJ category Phrase Origins, Kevin and Kate were correct, with Kevin adding $4,401 to win with $10,001 for a three-day total of $59,402.

Triple Stumper of the day: For the only clue revealed  in a baseball category the players were trying desperately to avoid, no one knew the 1927 team regarded as the greatest of all time is the New York Yankees.

Territory troubles: In a mistake that has come up before on the show, Kate responded to a clue about the Canadian Northwest Territories by making it singular, which is a different U.S. region. Initially given credit, it was later reversed and likely cost Kate the game.

One more thing: I wonder how many times in Jeopardy! history that a player has lost everything on DD3 and still come back to lead into FJ and win the game, as Kevin did here.

Correct Qs:
DD1 - What are OBject and ObJECT?
DD2 - Who was George III?
DD3 - Who was Wouk?
FJ - What is the Dust Bowl?
