Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Oct. 10

Today's contestants are:

- Geoff, a musician-programmer from Washington state, was hired by a bank to break into it;
- Cara, an actor from New York, loves Mel Brooks; and
- Jessica, a librarian from Maine, rode on a propeller aircraft. Jessica is a three-day champ with winnings of $52,199.

Geoff made a surprisingly large bet on DD3 and was correct to seal the game, going into FJ with $24,800 vs. $7,600 for champ Jessica and $5,500 for Cara.

DD1, $800 - BOLD STRATEGY - An "and" is in the middle of this strategy used by the Romans to foster feuds among smaller entities they were trying to rule (Geoff won $2,400 on a true DD.)

DD2, $1,200 - THE "NIGHT" WATCH - 1967 film in which Sidney Poitier clarifies, "They call me Mr. Tibbs" (Cara lost $2,500 from her score of $4,000.)

DD3, $800 - 4-LETTER PLACES - This capital of Hyogo Prefecture on Honshu is all the rage in beef (With three other clues remaining, Geoff added $8,000 to his total of $15,200 vs. $7,600 for Jessica. Another option for Geoff would have been to wager around $3,000, which would have given him a runaway if correct while not endangering his lead with a miss.)

FJ - ENGLISH HISTORY - In 1600 a royal charter authorized it to set forth to "parts of Asia and Africa" in search of "trade and traffic"

Only Geoff was correct on FJ (Cara had the right idea but her response was incomplete). Geoff added $8,599 to win with $33,399.

Triple Stumper of the day: In a category about "double z" words, no one knew that to silence a dog is to muzzle.

That's before our time: The players didn't know the "night" movie from 1988 with Charles Grodin and Robert De Niro is "Midnight Run".

Correct Qs:
DD1 - What is divide and conquer?
DD2 - What is "In the Heat of the Night"?
DD3 - What is Kobe?
FJ - What is (British) East India Company? (Cara only wrote "East India".)
