Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Oct. 14

Here are today's contestants:

- Erin, a PhD student from Missouri, did the old "watch Jeopardy! early and impress people who watch it later" trick;
- Anthony, a civil rights lawyer from California , lived in a warehouse full of sad, funny clowns; and
- Susan, a bookseller from Vermont, fostered rescue dogs. Susan is a one-day champ with winnings of $8,700.

Anthony was in command at every commercial break, but everyone had a chance going into FJ with Anthony at $15,500, Erin with $12,400 and Susan at $7,200.

DD1, $600 - BAYOU TRAP-ISTRY - The state of Louisiana says these reptiles over 4' can be considered a nuisance & will give you the name of a hunter (Anthony added $3,500 to his leading score of $6,200.)

DD2, $1,600 - AMERICAN POETS LAUREATE - In 1998 Lawrence Ferlinghetti was made this city's first Poet Laureate (Erin lost $4,000 from her total of $9,200 vs. $13,500 for Anthony.)

DD3, $1,600 - I.M. PEI - 2 of I.M. Pei's early designs to be built were at an airport & a presidential library both honoring this man (With three other clues remaining, Susan added just $1,000 to her third-place score of $6,200 vs. $14,300 for Anthony.)

FJ - CHEMICAL SYMBOL WORDPLAY - Fittingly, the symbols for the 4 elements in sodium citrate, which can make cheese melt easier, spell this 5-letter food

Erin and Susan were correct on FJ, with Erin adding $8,000 to win with $20,400. Note that if Susan had bet it all on DD3 from a distant third place, then bet everything again on FJ, she would at a minimum have forced a tiebreaker clue with Erin.

Pop culture problems: No one recalled the 1994 Hugh Grant-Andie MacDowell romance "Four Wedding and a Funeral" or hitmakers of "All Out of Love" and "Lost in Love", Air Supply.

No harm no foul: Everyone took an incorrect guess on the most dangerous profession that has drowning as the most common cause of death, fishing.

Missing the layup: For a clue about the "Chicago" poet who died in 1967, after Anthony missed with "Sandford", his opponents didn't jump in with Sandburg.

Correct Qs:
DD1 - What are alligators?
DD2 - What is San Francisco?
DD3 - Who was Kennedy?
FJ - What is nacho?
