Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Oct. 4

Introducing today's contestants:

- Kara, a coordinator from California, belongs to a cookbook book club;
- Beth, a history professor from Tennessee, collects malaprops from her students; and
- Kevin, a university administrator from New York, knows how to catch a bat. Kevin is a three-day champ with winnings of $59,402.

Kara tried to put the game away on DD3 but missed, so it was wide open going into FJ with Kara at $11,800, champ Kevin with $8,000 and Beth at $7,000.

DD1, $600 - 5-LETTER WORDS - These were 2 types of columns in ancient Greece (Kara won the window maximum of $1,000.)

DD2, $2,000 - WORDS ABOUT WORDS - 2-word term for a common language of speakers of different tongues; it was once an actual language quoted by Moliere  (Kevin lost $6,000 from his score of $10,400, dropping from first to third.)

DD3, $1,600 - SAINTS ON THE MAP - The Pony Express went from this Missouri city to Sacramento, California (Kara lost $5,000 from her total of $18,000 vs. $8,000 for Kevin.)

FJ - WORLD LITERATURE - Some parts were translated from a 15th century Syrian manuscript when this work was introduced to Europe around 1700

Kara and Kevin were correct on FJ, with Kara adding $6,000 to win with $17,800.

Triple Stumpers of the day: No one knew the title of the 8th "Saw" film that could be arrived at by adding three letters ("Jigsaw"), or in scientific classification, that which are assigned by a nomenclator are names.

This day in Trebekistan: Alex informed us that this is officially the 8,000th episode of the current version of Jeopardy!, although the true original episode count is different because at one point, the show was counting reruns in the episode numbers.

Correct Qs:
DD1 - What are doric and ionic?
DD2 - What is lingua franca?
DD3 - What is St. Joseph?
FJ - What is "1,001 (Arabian) Nights"?
