Jeopardy! recap for Fri. Oct. 11

Introducing today's contestants:

- Lindsey, a school administrator from British Columbia, whose first date with her husband was a trivia all-nighter;
- Susan, a bookseller from Vermont, found a sister she didn't know she had; and
- Geoff, a musician-programmer from Washington state, knows voice-overs can be tedious work. Geoff is a one-day champ with winnings of $33,399.

Lindsey shopped for and found DD3, missed but only made a modest wager from the lead and was able to maintain first place into FJ with $16,200 vs. $12,800 for Susan and $3,400 for champ Geoff.

DD1, $800 - KURT VONNEGUT- Sci-fi author Theodore Sturgeon was the inspiration for this recurring Vonnegut character who also had a fishy name (Jeopardy! Lindsey won $2,800 on a true DD, signified with an arm-waving motion Alex compared to the James all-in push.)

DD2, $1,200 - SOUTHERN POLITICIAN/AUTHOR - The first novel ever published by a U.S. President was "The Hornet's Nest", his saga of the Revolutionary War in the South (Susan won $2,000 from her score of 10,800 vs. $14,400 for Lindsey. )

DD3, $1,600 - NATIONAL PARKS - Big Bend National Park is named for a big bend on this river (Lindsey lost $3,000 from her total of $16,000 vs. $12,800 for Susan.)

FJ - AMERICAN PLAYWRIGHTS - In 1963 the Pulitzer advisory board vetoed his controversial play & gave no award; he would go on to win 3 Pulitzers

Everyone missed FJ and Susan wisely wagered only $4,100 from a close second place, taking the win when Linsday made the standard cover bet of $9,401. Susan's victory was worth $8,700.

Pop culture problems: The player of the "Million Dollar Piano" in Vegas was Elton John (not Liberace as two players thought), and no one knew Dudley Do-Right's mustachioed nemesis, Snidely Whiplash.

Correct Qs:
DD1 - Who is Trout?
DD2 - Who is Carter?
DD3 - What is the Rio Grande?
FJ - Who was Albee?
