ADverse: More “How to Mention the Unmentionable” and the Long Form Streaming Commercial

A couple months back I shared the Xiaflex commercial, a drug which is used to treat Peyronie’s Disease, that used various vegetables as stand-ins for men’s wedding tackle. We had some shares and discussion of commercials that talked creatively about things you can’t easily talk about on TV.

Someone brought up the Schick Hydro topiary commercial as a great example:

Over the weekend I was watching Hulu at a friend’s house. They don’t pay for the commercial free version so I got to see some of the ad breaks. I noticed a lot of 60 and in some cases 90 second commercials being shown. It makes sense since you can’t flip away from a streaming service and flip back you are kind of stuck in that space.

Companies have taken the opportunity to buy the whole time slot and run their longer ads so even if you use that time for a kitchen or bathroom run, there’s a good chance you are catching part of it.

The one that stood out by far was this one for Manscaped which is a not so subtle lift from Schick.
